Our bodies remember.

A very wise man once said, the body keeps the score (van der Kolk, 2014). What van der Kolk (2014) meant was that our bodies keep a tally of all the bumps and bruises that we encounter throughout our lives- both physically and mentally. When something sudden, strange or traumatic happens, our bodies remember. We carry these small scars with us wherever we go, in whatever we do. Sometimes, these small scars go unnoticed, surfacing years later, unexpectedly and without warning. Other times, we notice our scars and consciously carry them with us as we move about the world.

When it comes to our mental health, I think we can work to accept these scars, through the process of psychotherapy. My aim is to help guide you through your journey, recognizing your scars, and helping you to developing skills to accept them as part of a larger picture of the self.

The importance of relationships.

I believe that relationships are a large piece in the fabric of our being. We are sewn together through the connections that we have built throughout our lifetime. Good connections, built on strength and trust can help us as we navigate the world around us. In therapy, I hope to guide my clients through an understanding of the important relationships in their lives, and help to reframe, their relationships in a way that allows them to access a sense of freedom.

The relationship that I build with my clients rest on the values of safety and security. My goal is to create a safe space, where clients can express themselves in the way that feels most comfortable to them. I operate within a framework of respect, open-mindedness and flexibility. I am eager to learn from you, as we move into the therapeutic relationship.
